Health Sciences & Nursing (HSN) 2025-2026 Application Requirements

Application Process for Health Sciences and Nursing Programs

Students must complete all application requirements by the deadline to apply:

  • Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance
  • Application periods open at midnight on the start date and close at 11:59 p.m. on the end date
  • Students who have graduated with an associate, baccalaureate, or higher degree from a regionally accredited United States institution of higher education may have fulfilled the SDV requirement.  Evaluation through the College Records Office must be requested to receive SDV transfer credit
  • Applicants with pending transfer credit after the deadline will not be considered for admission. All international transcripts must be evaluated by IERF or WES prior to being sent to the College Records Office. The official evaluation report must be submitted.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older to attend clinicals
  • Program cohort sizes are approximate and may change depending on clinical site availability.
  • Starting in the Fall 2022, please be advised of the BIO 141 pre-requisite requirement.

*Please note that, per VCCS policy, a previous grade of a “P+” denotes that the student passed the course with a grade of a “C” or higher. Also, a previous grade of a “P- “denotes that the student passed the course with a grade of a “D.” As per this policy, a grade of a “P+” or “P-“ will not impact the student’s GPA. In the competitive admissions process, a “P+” translates into a letter grade of a “C.”

Transfer Credits for BIO: The decision to accept BIO courses transferred from other institutions to meet prerequisites for Health Science Programs will be made on a case-by-case basis with Dean approval.

For students who have transferred required admission pre-requisite courses from another institution, please note that if courses are showing as an EEE course on your transcript, it is important that you work with an advisor or reach out to meccounseling@nvcc.edu to complete a course substitution request in order to allow for this/these course(s) to be considered at the time of application. It is recommended that you give at a minimum of 10 business days to allow for this process to be completed.
