Apply to the Health Sciences and Nursing Programs

Apply to the Health Sciences and Nursing Programs

The Health Sciences and Nursing programs at the Medical Education Campus require a separate application process and only accept students during a specific timeframe. Students must also meet certain admission requirements to be eligible to apply. Review or attend a program information session to get more detailed information about each program.

Are you ready to apply?

  • Complete the program pre-requisites by the deadline
  • Have all applicable non-NOVA transcripts evaluated and transfer/test credits posted by the deadline
  • Apply online during the open application period
  • Application periods open at 12:01am on the start date and close at 11:59pm on the end date
  • Have a valid and active myNOVA account (Find your myNOVA login)
  • Allow 48 hours after applying to NOVA for myNOVA account to become active
  • Submit only one application per program in an application cycle
  • Attach required documents to the application (see Attachments chart below)
  • Attach any required TEAS scores in the correct format (How to Attach TEAS)

Apply Now

  • Check your student email for notification regarding your status
  • EMS Applicants: allow up to 10 business days
  • All other applicants: allow up to 8 weeks after the deadline

Are you having trouble with the online application?

  • Contact the IT Help Desk for password resets or assistance with myNOVA login issues
  • Forgot an attachment? Click on the View Requestbutton at the bottom of your confirmation email to add a missing attachment
  • For all other issues, email applymec@nvcc.edu from your student email account and include your name, student ID number, program, and a description of the problem so the issue can be tracked and investigated.


Application Attachments

Some programs require additional attachments be submitted with the online application. Refer to the chart below. Any special required forms may be downloaded from the program website.

Dental Assisting

High School transcript or GED if not already submitted to NOVA

Note: International high school transcripts must first be evaluated by an international evaluation agency such as IERF or ECE.

Dental Hygiene Chair-side Assisting Clinical Work Experience Form (if applicable)
Dental Assisting Training Program Certificates (if applicable)
Certified Dental Assistant Credential (DANB Certification - if applicable)
Copy of TEAS Test scores
Diagnostic Medical Sonography Copy of TEAS Test scores
Copy of current RT(R), RDMS, RDCS, or RVT licensure or certification (if applicable)
Medical Laboratory Technology Copy of TEAS Test Scores

Occupational Therapy Assistant OTA Program Observation Form
OTA Program Work Experience Form (if applicable)
Physical Therapist Assistant Copy of TEAS scores including the score for the Anatomy and Physiology science section
Clinic Observation Form (Note: The applicant must mail this form via certified mail to the MEC. Please refer to the PTA Information Session handout for mailing instructions.)
Radiography Copy of TEAS Test Scores
All other programs No supporting documents are required
Apply to NOVA
  • Apply to NOVA as a degree-seeking student.
  • Students who have not attended for more than three consecutive semesters must re-apply.
  • It may take up to 48 hours after applying to the college for your myNOVA account to become activated.
Attend/View an Information Session
  • Attend/View the mandatory program Information Session.
  • Some programs may also require an in-person session; see the program website for session dates
  • Disclaimer: Information sessions may be updated annually so check back every summer
Submit External Transcripts for Evaluation

This step is only required for students who have taken courses outside of NOVA

  • All applicable courses must be posted to your NOVA student record before submitting an application.
  • Allow 4 to 8 weeks for US transcripts and 8 to 10 weeks for international transcripts to be evaluated.
  • Submit official sealed transcripts from outside colleges to Student Services.
  • Complete a Transcript Evaluation Request Form.

An international credit evaluation agency must evaluate college credit and high school transcripts from universities or high schools outside the U.S. before submitting it to the college. NOVA accepts evaluations from www.wes.org (College Only), www.ece.org (HS and College) or www.ierf.org (HS and College).

Take Placement Tests

This step is only required for students who have not already transferred college English or Math

Placement Tests are valid for five years
Complete the Pre-Admission Requirements
  • Note the specific application requirements for the desired program.
  • Plan your schedule so all requirements will be completed by the deadline.
  • If TEAS testing is required, allow enough time for the retest waiting period in case multiple attempts are needed.
  • Final grades for pre-requisite courses must be posted before submitting an application.
  • Transfer credit and credit by exam results must be posted before submitting an application.
Apply to the Program
  • Submit an online Health Sciences & Nursing Application within the specified application period.
  • Include any supporting documents if required by the program.
  • Complete a separate application for each program if you are applying to multiple programs.
  • Allow 6 to 8 weeks after the deadline has passed for your application to be processed.
  • Check your VCCS student email account frequently for your application status.
  • All applicants will receive final notification from the program department


Accepted applicants must respond by the deadline provided in the acceptance letter and attend the mandatory program orientation. Students who do not respond or attend orientation will be replaced with another applicant.
