Apply to the Health Sciences and Nursing Programs

Welcome to the Medical Education Campus at NOVA!

Let us help you get started in your new healthcare career.

Did you know?

  • Health Sciences and Nursing programs require a separate application process
  • Each program has its own application requirements
  • There are specific deadlines when students may apply
  • Class sizes depend on clinical site and lab space availability
  • Detailed information is provided in the program Information Session

Steps to Submit an Eligible Application to the Health Sciences and Nursing Programs

  • Apply to NOVA as a degree-seeking student.
  • Reapply if it has been more than 3 semesters since you enrolled in a course.

Did you know?

  • Students may be initially placed in the General Studies Health Sciences major to complete pre-requisites or to request transfer credit evaluation.
  • Program placement to a Health Sciences or Nursing major will only happen after official acceptance

Complete the program Information Session.

  • Sessions may be updated annually; check back after the application deadline
  • Some sessions may be attended online while other sessions require in-person attendance
  • Refer to the program website for dates and rooms
  • Arrive on time or you must attend another date
  • Please do not bring children or guests

Did you know?

  • Codes are provided at information sessions as proof of attendance
  • You will need to submit the code with your online application

This step is only required for students who completed courses at another college or university besides NOVA, including another Virginia Community College.

It is not required if you completed all requirements at NOVA.

Important Facts to Keep in Mind Before Requesting Evaluation

  • Transcript evaluation is completed through the NOVA College Records Office.
  • Evaluation may take up to 12 weeks so complete your request as soon as possible.
  • All needed transfer credit must be posted to your record before applying to an HSN program.
  • Applications with pending evaluations after the deadline will not be considered.
  • You must submit a separate request for each transcript evaluation or re-evaluation.
  • You must submit Form 125-049E and indicate which HSN program you are applying to for your transcripts to be accurately evaluated for your desired program.
  • HSN applicants will not be placed in their desired program until after official acceptance.
  • HSN applicants that need to be placed in a credit program for evaluation may email virtualadvising@nvcc.edu to request placement in the General Studies Health Sciences program.
  • Science courses have a time limit for most HSN programs. This information will be provided in the Information Session or on the program website. Make sure you have completed the course within the required time limit and check that it has not expired.
  • If a program requires a B or better grade, it is the responsibility of the applicant to check the original transcript to make sure the completed course meets the grade requirement. The College Records Office may transfer courses with a C or better grade, but this does not mean the program will accept it.
  • Minus grades are not used at NOVA so a B- grade will transfer as a C; an A- grade transfers as a B.
  • Look for an email sent to your VCCS student account with your completed evaluation.
  • Send an email to askthecro@nvcc.edu with any questions about your evaluation.
  • If you transfer a prerequisite class to NOVA and take the same prerequisite class at NOVA, we will count the course taken at NOVA when you submit the HSN application.

Transcripts cannot be evaluated close to or at the program deadline! If you apply to an HSN program without allowing enough time for your evaluation, you accept the risk that your application may be denied for incomplete requirements.

Follow the procedures listed below for the type of evaluation you are requesting:
