NOVA Summer Bridge Program

Start strong before your first semester

Start your NOVA experience with Summer Bridge, a FREE program designed to help incoming students build academic skills, earn college credit and prepare for a successful first semester. 

Through a mix of coursework, academic preparation and guided support, students gain early exposure to college expectations while staying connected to NOVA over the summer. The program is designed to help you begin college feeling prepared, confident and ready to succeed. 

Students in Summer Bridge follow a structured program that introduces key academic skills, campus resources and expectations for the first semester. 

What to expect

Students in the Summer Bridge program will: 

  • Strengthen skills in English and math through guided academic preparation  
  • Earn a free 1-credit SDV 100/101 college success course  
  • Learn strategies for success in college-level coursework  
  • Explore majors and career pathways  
  • Connect with NOVA resources, staff and support services before the semester begins 

Availability is limited to the first 100 eligible students. 

Program components 

Students accepted into the program will complete the following: 

New Student Orientation 

Complete NOVA’s online orientation to become familiar with campus resources, student tools and what to expect during your first semester. 

SDV 100/101 Course 

Enroll in a 1-credit college success course focused on time management, study strategies, goal setting and navigating college successfully. 

Student Success Summit 

Participate in an in-person academic experience designed to prepare you for college-level English and math. The summit introduces key concepts, expectations and strategies needed for success in gateway courses. 

Career Exploration (optional) 

Explore majors and career pathways through guided activities and campus experiences that help you begin planning your academic and career goals. 

Program dates 

The Summer Bridge program runs from June 2, 2026 through August 10, 2026.

  • Application deadline: May 9, 2026
  • Acceptance notifications: by May 14, 2026

Location and format 

The Student Success Summit is held in person at the Annandale Campus. The SDV 100/101 course is offered in a variety of formats, including in-person, online and hybrid options.
