Contract Dual Enrollment

Contract Dual Enrollment courses are offered at various Northern Virginia high schools. These classes are offered during the school day for students attending that specific high school or academy and are taught by high school teachers who are also credentialed as NOVA adjuncts. Contract DE classes included under the contract between the school district and NOVA are offered free of charge.

Contract Dual Enrollment Checklist

Step #1 - Discuss

  • Discuss taking dual enrollment courses with a parent/guardian.
  • Meet with your high school counseling office to request specific courses offered through your high school.

Step #2 - Verify Eligibility

Step #3 - Apply to NOVA

  • All prospective DE students are required to complete the free, online NOVA application before the school district deadline and prior to the first day of the course.
  • Go to the NOVA Application.
  • After you submit the online application, you will receive a 7-digit Student ID number (EMPLID). This crucial number is needed to access college records and transcripts.
  • You will also be given a username to access myNOVA and NOVA’s Canvas site. Your temporary password is good for 24 hours. Log in, reset your password, set up your security questions, and complete the two-step multi-factor authentication process (MFA).

A Social Security number is not required to be on file; however, failure to provide one may limit or delay access to services where the number is required by federal or state law (ex., tax reporting, receiving financial aid after high school graduation).

Step #4 - Create an account at DualEnroll

  • Go to DualEnroll.
  • First-time users must create an account using a personal email address and a new username and password. This is not the same as the NOVA login credentials provided to you when you applied to NOVA.
  • Students new to DE must create a new account.
  • When prompted for your Student ID, add the 7-digit EMPLID you received after applying to NOVA.
  • Returning users log into your existing nvcc.dualenroll.com account.
  • Select your DE course(s) and upload any required documents.
  • Enter a valid email or phone number for a parent/guardian to receive an email and/or text message asking them to provide e-consent for their student to participate in DE course(s). Failure to complete this step can result in delays to student enrollment.

Step #5 - Prepare

  • Student Orientation:
    • The school division will provide a virtual orientation link outlining the Dual Enrollment program, student resources, and key NOVA policies/procedures.
  • Accommodations:
    • Students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) or 504 Plans must contact NOVA’s Accommodations and Accessibility Services office to apply for a Memorandum of Accommodations (MOA) for their Dual Enrollment courses.
    • Any accommodations for the NOVA course/grade must be on record at NOVA.
    • Start your accommodations request.

Log into your myNOVA account to verify your DE enrollment(s).
