In the Spotlight

Commitment to Student Achievement

NOVA has been a member of Achieving the Dream (AtD), a nationwide initiative developed to increase graduation rates and successful course completion at community colleges since 2007.

NOVA's AtD teams have been analyzing student outcome data and recommendations from students, faculty and staff to identify student success strategies that work. NOVA's commitment to student success is seen daily in our efforts to provide stimulating and challenging instruction, maintain high standards, make connections with our students, and help them to develop skills and knowledge related to long-term success.

The focus of NOVA's AtD initiative is to increase student persistence and success in education by identifying and closing achievement gaps. A New Student Orientation has been created, SDV 100 has been revised, and learning communities are being developed and evaluated. Task forces comprised of faculty and staff are making recommendations for developmental English and math, tutoring and a comprehensive First-Year Experience program.

All NOVA campuses have AtD sponsored events, where you can learn more about the initiative and let your voice be heard. The involvement of the entire College community is necessary for improving the success of our students.

Visit the Achieving the Dream website for more information.
