Revised 1/2024

PHT 247 - Alternative Photographic Processes (3 CR.)

Course Description

Explores manipulated imagery including traditional and non-traditional processes such as non-silver methods and electronic imaging. Uses enlarged film negatives in order to investigate a variety of methods. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 4 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Introduction to traditional and alternative photographic darkroom practices along with advanced digital image manipulation. Students explore and array methods for creating imagery in both the darkroom setting and computer studio. The goal is to produce photographic images that show an understanding of the legacy of photographic processes while embracing new techniques that integrate digital technology with chemical processes. The most important factor is that all of the physical properties of the finished pictures support the emotional and conceptual concerns of the artist.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisite: PHT 102, or permission of instructor.
