PHT 227 - Photographic Careers (3 CR.)
Course Description
Introduces students of photography and video to a variety professional opportunities in the field. This is an advanced course for students who would like to know more about their options in staff and freelance work. Lecture 3 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
Surveys careers in photography and video including editorial, commercial, corporate, and fine art practice. Emphasizes professional standards in various settings such as studios, newsrooms, and labs; and informed decision-making in the selection of a career.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
None.
Course Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
- Distinguish between editorial, commercial, retail, and fine art photography practices
- Follow basic professional standards of practice in a variety of production settings
- Identify and evaluate career options in professional photography or video
- Research and develop a career plan including appropriate education or licensing
- Edit a selection of images for desired impact
