PHT 201 - Advanced Photography I (3 CR.)
Course Description
Provides weekly critiques of students’ work. Centers on specific problems found in critiques. Includes working procedures and critical skills in looking at photographs. Part I of II. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week
General Course Purpose
Encourages work on individual projects and discussion in group critiques. Develops a framework and vocabulary for evaluating photographs. Explores the medium as a fine art and means of communication. Students may work in any lens-based media if they have completed relevant course work, for example PHT 103 for darkroom based media, or PHT 130 for time- based media.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisites: PHT102 or permission of the instructor.
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- complete a coherent photography project
- solve technical problems independently
- discuss work thoughtfully in critique using appropriate vocabulary
- write an artist’s statement

Optional Topics
May be included at the faculty member’s discretion. Field trips and guest lectures may augment course instruction.
