PHT 102 - Photography II (3 CR.)
Course Description
Teaches principles of photography and fundamental camera techniques. Requires outside shooting and lab work. Part II of II. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 4 hours. Total 5 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
This course introduces students to 35 mm black and white film photography and teaches the techniques and processes involved in the black and white wet lab and darkroom. This course provides students with an understanding of the historic process of film photography, strengthens their understanding of camera exposure and metering, and provides an alternative medium for students to use in their commercial and artistic endeavors.Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisites: PHT 101 or permission
Course Objectives
- Students will be familiar with the history of the black and white film medium, its uses, its evolvement, and its artists. (PLO 1,2,3,4,5,6)
- Students will continue to explore camera controls and the relationship between shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and exposure. (PLO 1,2,3,4,5,6)
- Students will be knowledgeable in the use of the 18% gray card, camera metering modes, push processing technique, and in creating a silhouette. (PLO 1,2,3,5)
- Students will become familiar with different black and white films and R. C. and fiber printing papers, along with their characteristics and benefits. (PLO 1,2,3,5)
- Students will be able to load and develop film in developing tanks and to print their photographs using the darkroom wet lab processes. (PLO 1,2,3,5)
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of light quality and be able to photograph in available, low light, and night scenes. (PLO 1,2,3,4,5, 7)
