MUS 135 - Jazz Ensemble (1 CR.)
Course Description
Consists of performance from Standard Jazz and American Songbook Repertoires, including study of ensemble techniques, interpretation, and improvisation. Divisional approval required. May be repeated for credit. Laboratory 3 hours.
General Course Purpose
To produce a performing musical ensemble which will meet the ensemble requirements for music majors and serve the college community through quality performances of jazz music.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisite: Secondary level musical knowledge and performing experience on an instrument or voice. Department permission required.
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Sight-read arrangements from the standard jazz repertoire.
- Perform public concerts.
- Interpret music from various eras in an appropriate style.
- Build a meaningful improvised solo in a large ensemble context.
