MDL 281 - Clinical Correlations (1 CR.)

Course Description

Teaches students to apply knowledge gained in courses offered in the MDL curriculum using primarily a case history form of presentation. Emphasizes critical thinking skills in the practice of laboratory medicine.
Lecture 1 hour. Total 1 hour per week.

General Course Purpose

This course will be used as a review session for the medical laboratory courses taken during the previous four semesters. This will serve as preparation for the external national examination. Aspects of laboratory management and interviewing skills will also be covered.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisites: Students must be in the final semester of the Medical Laboratory Technology AAS degree program.

Course Objectives

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Recall the major departments of the clinical laboratory.
  • Integrate theory of all disciplines to patient case studies.
  • Design review programs for a section of the medical laboratory curriculum.
  • Use computer assisted instruction and or testing programs.
  • Discuss interviewing techniques.
  • Compose a cover letter and resume.
  • Effectively Communicate processes, procedures and results in a multicultural environment.
