IDS 285 - Portfolio and Resume Preparation for Interior Designers (3 CR.)
Course Description
Introduces the proper elements of a professional resume for employment in the field. Focuses on the organization of portfolio content and introduces various methods of digital portfolio production as well as traditional formats. Includes detailed instruction on proper oral presentation skills, interview preparation and techniques, and professional attire and behavior. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total Contact 4 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
This course prepares the Interior Design student for the process of interviewing in order to secure employment in the field of interior design or a related professional services arena by developing a professional digital or traditional portfolio of selected work.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
- Prerequisites: IDS 105, IDS 106, IDS 245.
- Pre or corequisite IDS 215. This is a capstone class in the interior design program.
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Review and prepare project and personal content for a professional digital portfolio.
- Create a professional resume and business (contact) card to include when applying for an interior design position.
- Develop the digital framework for an interior design portfolio for employment or furthering education.
- Explain a portfolio of work to a potential employer in a mock interview.
- Develop interview techniques to use in the interior design industry.
- Compose a cover letter targeting employment in the interior design field.
- Utilizing Social Media for marketing skills
