IDS 206 - Lighting and Furnishings (3 CR.)
Course Description
Provides instruction in lighting terminology including sources of light, lamp types, fixture types and controls. Explores lighting design using layering techniques and lighting calculations that are used to determine lighting needs for a variety of spaces. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
This course introduces students to current lighting terminology and the variety of lighting options that can be used in design. Students will practice lighting calculations and techniques to develop and enhance lighting design skills.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisite: IDS 100, IDS 105 and IDS 245.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Utilize lighting terminology and specifications of luminaires and lamps to develop the lighting for interior spaces.
- Analyze lighting needs of a space using a layered light approach.
- Develop a Lighting Plan and or Reflected Ceiling Plan for an Interior Space
- Calculate lighting requirement needs for an assigned Interior space.
