IDS 105 - Architectural Drafting for Interior Design (3 CR.)

Course Description

Introduces tools and equipment, lettering, methods of construction, designing and delineation of architecture.

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

This course is intended to provide students with an understanding of architectural drafting for interior design. Students will be introduced to the tools and equipment required for the preparation of architectural drawings, and they will use these tools to gain proficiency in lettering, methods of construction, and delineation of those spaces. Students will begin to develop their presentation skills through graphic illustration and verbal communication.

None.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Be proficient in the use of the tools required for architectural drawing.
  • Be able to read and explain the drawings required for the construction of an interior space, including basic symbols, abbreviations and schedules.
  • Be able to execute architectural drawings including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, power/telephone plans, elevations and sections.
  • Develop plans that meet the basic building code requirements pertaining to health, safety, and welfare; fire protection; egress; and barrier free design of residential interior spaces.
