IDS 100 - Theory and Techniques of Interior Design (3 CR.)

Course Description

Introduces drafting and presentation, color theory, and coordination, space planning and arrangement of furnishings.

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week .

General Course Purpose

The course is designed to introduce the student to the profession of interior design, including the different aspects of both residential and commercial projects. Students will gain knowledge of general design principles, color theory, materials selections, business principles and practices and space planning as they relate to residential and commercial design.

None.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Define interior design vs interior decoration.
  • Explain the design process as it relates to an interior design project.
  • Apply the principles and elements of design through exercises and projects.
  • Utilize drawing skills to develop space plans and elevations.
  • Recognize various types and sources of furnishings and interior materials and apply them correctly in design projects.
  • Practice drawing and presentation techniques used in interior design.
