EDU 290 - Coordinated Internship (1 CR.)

Course Description

Supervises on-the-job training in selected, business, industrial or service firms coordinated by the college.

General Course Purpose

This is a pre-professional course that provides students with the opportunity to serve as teacher assistants, tutors, classroom monitors, and substitute teachers in the K-12 public schools.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

EDU 200.

Course Objectives

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Discuss strategies for developing a classroom community that affirms and welcomes all learners.
  • Analyze a lesson plan for teacher roles, instructional strategies, and assessments.
  • Develop and implement a classroom management plan.
  • Implement and reflect upon culturally relevant pedagogy and classroom management strategies.
  • Develop professional communication and time management skills.
  • Summarize an emergency management plan.
  • Complete the VDOE’s required Child Abuse Training.
  • Participate in the professional learning community of their assigned school.
