DNA 110 - Dental Materials (3 CR.)
Course Description
Studies the materials utilized in the laboratory aspect of dentistry as support in treatment. Emphasis is placed on the characteristics, manipulation, economical control, storage, and delivery of materials.
- Lecture: 2 hours per week
- Laboratory: 3 hours per week
- Total: 5 hours per week
General Course Purpose
This course is designed to acquaint the student with the physical and chemical structures of materials used in dental practice. Instruction and practice in the manipulation of materials and laboratory procedures are emphasized.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
- Prerequisites: ENG 111, NAS 159, and SDV 101
- Corequisites: DNA 100, DNA 108, DNA 113, DNA 134 and PSY 200
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Describe factors for making demands on dental materials
- Describe the major properties for dental materials
- Demonstrate the ability to manipulate dental materials
- Demonstrate the ability to perform laboratory procedures
- Describe the precautions for handling hazardous materials
- Demonstrate the ability to practice proper methods of infection control when manipulating dental materials
- Demonstrate the ability to practice proper methods of infection control when performing laboratory procedures
