CST 270 - Film Directing (3 CR.)
Course Description
Introduces theory and practice of film directing. Explores the roles and responsibilities of the director in development, pre-production, production, post-production, distribution and exhibition phases of the filmmaking process for Cinema and other media. Covers mise en scene, how to interpret a script visually and how to work with actors. Lecture 2 hour per week. Studio 2 hours per week. Total 4 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
Fosters the basic understanding, in theory and practice, of a director’s role and responsibilities in the creative, production as well as management aspects of directing for Cinema and other media.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisites: CST 120, ART 160 and ENG 111.
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Examine and analyze a script
- Interpret a script visually - create a shooting script
- Apply techniques of mise-en-scene
- Create a unified production concept
- Analyze a successful production process
- Direct actors with developing diverse and dynamic characters
- Work effectively with various departments of the film production
- Serve in the different roles of the Director
