CST 137 - Oral Interpretation (3 CR.)

Course Description

Studies the theory and practice of performing various types of literature: prose, poetry, and drama. Emphasizes the relationship among the oral interpreter, the literary work, and the audience. Lecture 3 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Provides the student with the opportunity to develop competencies in both the understanding and performance of oral communication of literature. Course Prerequisites/Co-requisites Fluency in Standard American English. Recommend proficiency in reading and writing at English111 level.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • know how to interpret prose, poetry, and dramatic literature
  • acquire an appreciation of the material as a work of literary art
  • demonstrate the ability to communicate to an audience that work of art through the voice and body
