BLD 110 - Introduction to Construction (3 CR.)
Course Description
Introduces use of tools and equipment, with emphasis on construction safety, including personal and tool safety. Provides a working introduction to basic blueprint reading and fundamentals of construction mathematics. Lecture 3 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
To provide student with the basic knowledge and requirements needed in the construction trades.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
None.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to
- conduct himself in a safe and responsible manner, recognize warning symbols and hazard areas, know what to do if safety measures must be applied.
- recognize various hand tools, know how to properly handle tools, understand their functions.
- recognize basic power tools, know how to properly handle power tools, understand their function.
- read a tape measure, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers, convert decimals to fractions.
- use blueprints as a guide for building, recognize symbols and abbreviations, know how to scale drawings.
