American Women's College of Bay Path University

The American Women's College of Bay Path University offers an affordable, flexible, and accelerated online option for earning your B.S. in Cybersecurity: Digital Forensics. Established in 1897, Bay Path University is a private, non-profit institution for women at the undergraduate level and welcomes men and women at the master's and doctoral levels. The B.S. in Cybersecurity leverages cutting-edge technology and real-world scenarios and focuses on areas such as white-collar criminal investigations, forensic acquisition, chain-of-custody, evidence handling, network intrusions, mobile forensics, malware/phishing identification, insider threat, how-to-apply security measures to ensure Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) of data to ultimately learning how to protect the digital assets of an organization.

Students will obtain experience utilizing virtual labs with various best-in-class forensic software packages used throughout law enforcement, government agencies and corporate America. Classes are offered in a six-week accelerated model, and students with an associate's degree are typically able to earn their bachelor's degree in about a year and a half. Bay Path University also offers an M.S. in Cybersecurity +Certification, which educates students in all aspects of the leadership of cybersecurity systems and personnel and prepares students to assume immediate responsibility for the management and oversight of such systems.

George Mason University

1. When majoring in AAS in Cybersecurity at NOVA:

Bachelor of Applied Science Cybersecurity

The Bachelor of Applied Science program offers a unique degree-completion curriculum for students typically in the workforce who wish to return to college to further their advancement opportunities. It is also perfect for veterans looking to expand upon their skills gained while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Like the program, BAS admission requirements are unique. BAS applicants are considered for regular admission only.

In order to be eligible for the BAS in Cyber Security, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Earned an AAS in Cyber Security or an AAS in Information Systems Technology, with a Cyber Security Career Studies Certificate.

Suggested AAS Cybersecurity technical courses: While not required prior to admission, students are strongly encouraged to take equivalent courses to the following. Doing so will ensure timely degree progression at Mason. Students who transfer without these courses will not be able to take upper-level IT courses at Mason until these requirements are met.

  • IT 104 (VCCS equivalent: ITE 119 or ITE 152)
  • IT 105 (VCCS equivalent: ITN 100 and ITE 221 or ITN 101 and ITE 221)
  • IT 223 (VCCS equivalent: ITN 260 + ITN 266)

2. When majoring in AS in Information Technology at NOVA:

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a Cybersecurity concentration

The Information Technology, BS prepares students to apply IT to support business processes. The degree produces graduates with strong problem-solving, writing, and communication skills who successfully compete for technical employment and are prepared for advanced study.

Best NOVA major for transfer to this program is Information Technology, A.S.

Effective Spring 2023, transfer applicants to Information Technology are required to present

  • A 2.85 cumulative GPA
  • English Composition equivalent to ENGH 101. VCCS ENG 112 with a grade of a C or higher.
  • A math course transferable as George Mason Core or Pre-Calculus with a grade of C or higher.  VCCS transfers must choose one of the following courses: MTH 154, 167, 245, 261, or 263. MTH 245 and MTH 261 are recommended.

BSIT Transfer Credit

Admitted VCCS students who complete any of the following courses with grades of A or B will receive the direct transfer credit equivalency. Transfer equivalencies are awarded individually.

  • ITD 256 = IT 214
  • ITE 170 = IT 213
  • ITP 120 = IT 106 or ITP 150 = IT 109

Admitted BSIT transfers with a C grade in any of these courses will receive elective credit.

3. When majoring in AS in Engineering at NOVA:

Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering (CYSE)

The Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security Engineering (CYSE) prepares graduates to design, analyze, and implement cyber-resilient systems that protect physical, computing, and networked infrastructures. The program integrates cybersecurity principles into the engineering design process from the earliest stages of system development, emphasizing secure-by-design methodologies for complex cyber-physical systems

Best NOVA major for transfer to this program is Engineering, A.S.

Scholarship for Service program

The College of Engineering and Computing at George Mason University (Mason) has been awarded a five-year (2025–2029) grant from the National Science Foundation CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service (SFS) program to educate and train students specializing in cybersecurity. This initiative aims to equip them for impactful careers in government agencies, strengthening the security of the nation’s critical information infrastructure. Recipients must be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.

The scholarship provides undergraduate students with two years of full tuition, a $6,000 annual professional allowance, and a $27,000 yearly stipend for living expenses. Recipients are required to work in a cybersecurity role within a government agency after graduation for a duration equivalent to their scholarship support.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Cybersecurity Major

The Cybersecurity major, which leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, provides students with a rigorous and up to date foundation in cybersecurity. The program starts with a solid foundation in Computer Science and moves on to cover a technical and broad program in cybersecurity. The major also builds in flexibility allowing the student to use elective credits to focus on an area of cybersecurity that they are the most passionate about.

Recommend the best NOVA major for this degree is the Computer Science, A.S. However the AS in Computer Science has higher Math requirements than the B.S. Talk to a transfer advisor at UMW or a NOVA IET advisor for extra guidance on choosing the correct courses.
