Mission of the NOVA Biotechnology Program
In response to Northern Virginia's growing biotech sector, there's a demand for skilled employees in documentation, quality control, critical thinking, safety, and more. Our courses prepare graduates for entry-level positions, contributing to various biotech applications, including drug development for diseases like cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes.
NOVA's Biotechnology Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree, readies graduates for immediate employment in laboratory, research, or manufacturing roles. While transfer isn't the primary goal, about 2/3 of the courses are transferable to most senior institutions, with more expected in the future. This innovative program aims to train the next generation of Biotechnology employees and support professionals. It caters to students seeking a strong scientific foundation and specific skills, as well as those aiming for job flexibility as generalists.
We serve a diverse student population, including recent high school graduates, individuals seeking re-training, and career changers pursuing entry-level roles in research and bio-manufacturing. Our course offerings, like Biotechnology Methods and Biotechnology Concepts, are available to those pursuing an A.S. in Science.
