Wei Liang – Chinese Calligraphy and Brush Painting: A Demonstration and Presentation

Continuing the AAPI Center’s collaboration with NOVAarts, we will be hosting artist Wei Liang to learn about his work with Chinese calligraphy and brush painting through a combined lecture and demonstration! Liang’s work is currently on display in the AAPI Center.

The Grand Opening of the AAPI Center will welcome NOVA students, faculty, and staff, along with the AAPI Center’s community partner organizations and artists, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the AAPI Center. For the rest of the day, the AAPI Center will be open for all other visitors to come and learn about what the Center offers.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) - A Discussion on Addressing Anti-Asian Hate and Microaggressions

The AAPI Center will be hosting the Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) organization to learn about current issues impacting the community as cases of anti-Asian hate have been on the rise in recent years. The AAJC will also be helping to define microaggressions, emphasize their impact, and share tools on how to respond to them.

Domestic Violence Resource Project (DVRP) – Cultural Humility and AAPI Populations

Join us as representatives from the Domestic Violence Research Project (DVRP) define and discuss cultural humility while relating it to AAPI populations in particular. The DVRP will also be providing information on how to access and utilize the organization’s services.

Dr. Bharat Rathod discusses castes and social hierarchy in the US within a DEI framework. His presentation will explore how these hierarchies appear within US institutions, particularly higher education, and the possible ways to combat their continued reinforcement.
