Dr. Alicia Tucker

image of alicia tuckerDr. Alicia Tucker is a Professor of History on the Manassas Campus. Hired as an adjunct instructor in 2002, she became a full-time faculty member in Fall 2008. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Faculty Caucus and as NOVA’s Chancellor’s Faculty Advising Council (CFAC) Representative.

Alicia earned a Master of Arts from the College of William and Mary with a specialization in Early American History, as well as a Museum Management Certificate from Colonial Williamsburg. She earned a PhD in U.S. History from George Mason University. Her dissertation, “A Small, but Well Chosen Library:” Women and Rural Reading Communities in the Age of the Early Republic, examines how the growing print culture in the United States influenced women and their communities in rural areas of Virginia.

Over the past 17 years at NOVA, Alicia has worked to ensure that the College is a supportive academic community where faculty members are respected and encouraged to grow in their craft. Her service to the college has taken place on the campus, college and VCCS levels.

Through leadership positions within the history discipline, she worked on course development, TransferVA, Advance Pathway, DE oversight and online course design. She has gravitated to initiatives that support scholarly engagement, explore teaching pedagogy and encourage student success. As CFAC representative, she is a member of VCCS workgroups that focus on supporting student learning, acknowledging the importance of academic integrity and empowering faculty to meet our academic mission.
