SUR 260 - SUR 260 - Surgical Technology Clinical Practicum (8 CR.)

Course Description

Provides continued study and extensive clinical experience in all surgical specialties. Emphasis is on clinical practice thereby further enhancing theoretical and practical knowledge of select procedures, surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment. The scrub and circulating roles of the surgical technologist including aseptic technique and case preparation for select surgical procedures continue to be emphasized. Laboratory 24 hours. Total 24 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Continued development of essential skills needed to perform safely and competently in the operating room environment. Students will participate in the clinical setting as a student surgical technologist in various surgical specialties.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisites: SUR 135, SUR 150, SUR 240, SUR 245. Corequisites: SUR 210 as corequisite or prerequisite.

  • Plan the intraoperative course for various surgical procedures
  • Demonstrate correct handling of instruments, equipment, and supplies
