RTH 227 - Integrated Respiratory Therapy Skills II (2 CR.)
Course Description
Presents intensive correlation of all major respiratory therapy subject areas reflecting the entry-level and advanced practitioner matrices. The course emphasizes assessment, implementation, and modification of therapy to patient response. Lecture 2 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
The primary focus of the course is to prepare the student to function at the entry-level and advanced practitioner levels through the integration of material presented in the first three semesters of the program.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisites: RTH 215, RTH 222, RTH 223, RTH 236, and RTH 290 (Adult ICU Rotation).
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate competency in information gathering, clinical decision-making, and instrumentation skills consistent with CoARC entry-level competencies for respiratory care practitioners.
- Apply problem-based learning strategies to analyze respiratory care scenarios similar to those encountered on national credentialing examinations
- Explain the structure, content areas, and eligibility requirements of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialing examinations
- Describe the licensure application process and professional credentialing requirements for respiratory therapists, including state licensure considerations
- Utilize test-taking strategies and clinical reasoning techniques to improve performance on respiratory therapy credentialing examinations
- Integrate knowledge from previous coursework to systematically approach and answer board-style multiple-choice and scenario-based examination questions
