MUS 237 - Chorus Ensemble (2 CR.)

Course Description

Courses in ensemble consist of performance from the standard repertoires, including study of ensemble techniques and interpretation. May be repeated for credit. Laboratory 6 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

It is the purpose of this course to utilize the range of voices and varied levels of choral skill and experience of its students to produce outstanding, artistic performances for the college and community of a varied and eclectic repertoire representing the best of the choral art.

None.

Course Objectives

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate pitch accurately and sing with good intonation

  • Produce and evaluate a clear, well supported, energized and resonant vocal tone that blends with the ensemble

  • With direction from the instructor, demonstrate efficient rehearsal techniques and strategies that facilitate learning the course repertoire in a timely manner

  • Sing and appraise assigned parts (SATB) in course repertoire with melodic and rhythmic accuracy, independent of others, from memory when required

  • Sing with clear, understandable diction in English and other languages, as determined by the course repertoire ? evaluate outcome

  • Sing course repertoire expressively, musically, with artistry and sensitivity as a member of the ensemble

  • Demonstrate dependable class attendance and participate in all scheduled performances.
