MUS 149 - Band (1 CR.)

Course Description

Ensemble consists of performance from the standard repertoires, including study of ensemble techniques and interpretation. Divisional approval required. May be repeated for credit.

General Course Purpose

To produce a performing musical ensemble which will meet the ensemble requirements for music majors.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Secondary level musical knowledge and performing experience on a band instruments. Division approval required.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

• strengthen each student’s musical awareness and performance skills, both individually and collectively, so they contribute with greater sensitivity, precision, and artistry within the ensemble. 
• develop the habits and disciplines that support high‑level performance in all musical settings—from daily rehearsals to concerts in a wide range of venues, including world‑class concert halls—while functioning as an integral member of an ensemble. 
• meet the ensemble requirements for music majors

Major Topics to Be Included

The study of musical literature designed for an ensemble of band instruments and working towards performance situations.

Optional Topics

Open discussions to help the student communicate with one another and to understand how this communication is applied to a musical ensemble.
