Course Description
Ensemble consists of performance from the standard repertoires, including study of ensemble techniques and interpretation. Divisional approval required. May be repeated for credit. Laboratory 3 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
To produce a performing musical ensemble which will meet the ensemble requirements for music majors.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Secondary level musical knowledge and performing experience on an orchestral instrument. Department permission required.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- raise the level of musical awareness and performing capabilities of the student as an individual and as an ensemble
- develop the habits and disciplines necessary to improve performance in various situations as a part of an ensemble
- meet the ensemble requirements for music majors
Major Topics to Be Included
The study of musical literature designed for an ensemble of orchestra instruments and working towards performance situations.
Optional Topics
Open discussions to help the student communicate with one another and to understand how this communication is applied to a musical ensemble.
