IDS 245 - Computer Aided Drafting for Interior Designers (3 CR.)

Course Description

Introduces advanced methods of designing project spaces using BIM (Building Information Modeling) software. Includes the development of rendered three dimensional drawings with specialized light settings, entourage, and photo-realistic images. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

This course introduces students to BIM, an important collaborative process in the design field. Students will learn to work across disciplines and make more accurate models, improve communication and efficiency and reduce project errors and delays.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisite: IDS 245.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic Autodesk Revit tools and techniques.
  • Explain BIM technology as related to the design industry.
  • Create an interior design project using BIM technology.
  • Utilize entourage to add scale and realism to computer generated models.
  • Generate 1 pt and 2 pt perspective views.
  • Present projects to an audience.
