IDS 245 - Computer Aided Drafting for Interior Designers (3 CR.)

Course Description

Instructs in the use of computer aided drawing software for drafting of floor plans, elevations, perspectives, and other drawings used to convey design ideas. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 4 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Instructs in the use of computer aided drawing software for drafting of floor plans, elevations, perspectives, and other drawings used to convey design ideas.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisite: IDS 105.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Draw detailed floor plans using the most recent version of AutoCAD.
  • Modify interior design drawings using a variety of AutoCAD commands.
  • Insert text to interior design drawings.
  • Add dimensions to interior design drawings.
  • Draft basic elevations, sections, and details related to interior spaces.
  • Identify basic symbols, schedules, and conventions in the design field.

  • Applying Auto-CAD skills to create construction drawings
  • Applying scale Factors, dimensioning, and sheet layouts for a set of CAD documents
