DSL 145 - Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Preventative Maintenance Inspection (3 CR.)

Course Description

Presents the process of implementing a preventive maintenance program, the various inspection procedures required by the original equipment manufacturers (OEM), federal regulations, and the process of related documentation. Provides preparation for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 Preventative Maintenance Inspection certification examination. Lecture - 2 hours. Laboratory - 2 hours. Total Contact - 4 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

This course is part of the upcoming AAS degree in diesel technology requested by the local diesel repair industry and will also be used in the current CSC: Medium/Heavy Truck Technician. This course aligns with the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) accreditation standards for Medium/Heavy Truck.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Review past maintenance repair documents to determine necessary action.
  • Demonstrate procedures for Preventive Maintenance Inspections.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance on Heavy duty trucks.
  • Perform federal motor vehicle inspections.
