BLD 231 - Construction Estimating I (3 CR.)

Course Description

Focuses on materials take-off and computing quantities from working drawings and specifications. Includes methods for computing quantities of concrete, steel, masonry, roofing, and excavation. Deals with pricing building components, materials and processes, as well as transportation and handling costs, mark-up discount procedures, equipment cost, and labor rates. Lecture 3 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

The purpose is to train the student enrolled in the construction management curriculum the proper methods of construction quantity take-off methods.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Proficiency in reading architectural plans and specifications used in construction of residential and commercial construction.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to comprehend methods of estimating excavation, concrete, masonry, wood, steel, roofing, and related building components.
