AUT 136 - Automotive Vehicle Inspection (2 CR.)
Course Description
Presents information on methods for performing automotive vehicle safety inspection. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
Prepares students for the Virginia State Safety Inspector written and practical exam.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Students must attend first class meeting to meet with Virginia State Police representative on course requirements and qualifications necessary for obtaining Virginia State Safety Inspection license.
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Identify and inspect major vehicle components.
- Identify failure criteria of component inspected.
- Explain Virginia vehicle safety regulations and requirements.
- Perform Virginia State Safety inspections.
- Explain licensing procedures and requirements for State Safety Inspectors.
- Discuss findings with car owner and estimate cost of repairs needed
