AUB 119 - Automotive Painting (4 CR.)

Course Description

Teaches theory and application of painting and the use of painting equipment. Also discusses application of materials, paints, thinners, primers, rubbing compounds, and cleaners. Lecture 3 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

The student will be taught how to use and care for the spray gun and the other equipment used by the refinishing industry. The student will learn about the newest procedures and paint materials in use today. Problems, causes, and corrections are covered in detail.

Course Prerequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisite or Corequisite: AUB 127.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • understand and demonstrate personal and shop safety procedures
  • identify spray painting equipment
  • identify basic techniques of good spray painting
  • determine when and how to make spot repairs
  • explain the operation of spray booths
