Counseling Services

NOVA strives to be a learning centered organization that promotes student success. Counseling services are available to support students by comprehensively addressing issues that may interfere with academic and personal responsibilities. Students can receive holistic support for complicated academic guidance, as well as situations which may be particularly stressful and affect multiple aspects of their life. Students who are on academic probation can receive the necessary guidance and approval for registration through interaction with their Academic Success Counselor. Counseling services staff have advanced skills to provide direct assistance to students both inside and outside the classroom and can connect students to resources beyond our services to get the needed support.

Academic Success Counselors can assist students with identifying the factors that lead to poor academic performance, setting goals for academic recovery, providing approval for registration and referring to appropriate support resources. Visit here for more information.

If you intend to get a degree from NOVA and transfer to another college, the Transfer Hub has all the most up-to-date transfer information, links to the top transfer institutions students attend, and admissions, recruitment, and transfer perparation events. If you have a complicated transfer situation, please do seek an appointment through Navigate Student.

NOVA serves a large population of students who receive disability-related accommodations. Please review the Accommodations and Accessibility Services website before classes begin to find out about these services, resources for support and how to request academic accommodations.

Career Service staff assist students with exploring, developing and setting goals related to each student's unique educational and academic needs. These services include career assessments, occupational information, goal setting, planning, and employment resources. Use resources on the Career Services site to explore careers by researching information on academic majors, job salaries and outlooks, required skills, educational requirements, and typical work duties.
