NOVA will be launching the Jumpstart program again for the summer 2021. Graduating seniors with schools that NOVA already has a dual enrollment agreement with will be eligible to take two free courses at NOVA during the summer semester. The program will be expanded this year with additional courses available.
The application for the Jumpstart program will open on April 5, 2021 with applications due by April 30, 2021. The courses will be offered in a 10-week semester format and will run from June 1, 2021 to August 9, 2021. All course offerings will be conducted via online asynchronous instruction.
The program provides the opportunity for high school students to get a start on their college career while removing the barrier of costs to general education requirements.
Last year, NOVA assisted 2,600 students in getting college credits for free,” said Dr. Sheri Robertson, interim chief academic officer at NOVA. “We understood when the pandemic hit that we had to mobilize quickly to lessen the impact of cancellations and interruptions to education. We wanted to encourage students to continue their education by providing high-quality online classes that were accessible to people at all income levels. Students needed an opportunity to flourish, grow and continue their education at NOVA and beyond.”
For the strategic implementation in ensuring that the was program successful in not only providing a world-class education but to also help ensure that the region has a globally competitive workforce, Jumpstart was recognized by business leaders in the area. Jumpstart won the award for 2020 Education Innovator of the Year at the inaugural Greater Washington Innovation Awards.
Upon completion of the JumpStart application process, which includes applying to NOVA, completing their JumpStart application and uploading eligibility requirements, local high school students can start earning college credits. For students under 18, a parent or legal guardian’s permission will be needed to register.
Eligibility requirements for the Jumpstart program requires that most high school seniors should have a 3.0 GPA.
