In November of 2020, Northern Virginia Community College highlighted and propelled Governor Northam’s launch of the ‘Re-Employing Virginians’ (REV) initiative. The initial enrollment deadline of Dec. 14, 2020 has now been extended to Dec. 31, 2021. NOVA’s allocation of the initiative was $5.8 million to provide first-dollar, tuition-only scholarships to eligible individuals who enrolled in NOVA’s state-approved Fast Forward and G-3 programs. Currently, NOVA has enrolled more than 1,000 students, totaling $2.4 million in current funding, and NOVA will continue enrolling students until the end of the year or until full funds are exhausted.
Currently, an eligible student can enroll in qualified classes for spring, summer or fall semesters in 2021. The REV initiative will provide one-time scholarships of $3,000 to register in a qualifying full-time program or $1,500 to register part-time or in a short-term, non-credit training program. The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and the Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads Local Workforce Development Areas will administer the CARES Act funding for the REV initiative, with $27 million allocated to VCCS for statewide programs, (including NOVA and many other institutions) and $3 million for the two workforce areas.
