NOVA is extremely proud that President Anne M. Kress and VCCS Chancellor David Doré have both been named to Virginia Business magazine’s “Virginia 500 Power List for 2023-2024.” The fourth annual edition lists the Commonwealth’s top executives in 20 categories.
Both Kress and Doré named the transformational nature of the community college mission as the thing that drives them. According to Kress, “I fell in love with the transformational mission of community colleges and the inspiring students we are honored to serve.”
“In naming me to the list, Virginia Business is recognizing the leadership role that NOVA holds within higher education across the Commonwealth and the exceptional quality of our students, faculty, staff and college,” Kress said.

Richard Foster, Virginia Business’ editor said, “It’s like the Fortune 500, but instead of companies, it’s about people. Unlike the Fortune 500, which ranks companies by gross revenues, this is a more subjective list. Compiled via staff research, we catalog Virginia’s 500 most powerful leaders across 19 major sectors, ranging from real estate and manufacturing to higher education and federal contracting. There is not a nomination process, and we do not rank executives.”
These recognitions acknowledge the great dedication of the VCCS’ newest leader as well as NOVA’s exceptional president. Our students demand the best, and they get it at NOVA and it’s other system colleges.
