Tuition & Fees

Northern Virginia Community College offers its students an exceptional educational value -- among the lowest tuition of any college or university in the Washington, D.C. area, thanks to financial support from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Fall 2022, Spring 2023 and Summer 2023 Tuition Rates

The total cost of enrollment is based on a charge per credit hour. Tuition is the same for credit and audit courses.

1 The tuition and fee rates are effective for the Fall 2022 semester. Tuition is subject to change by action of the State Board of Community Colleges. Fees are payable with tuition and are charged per-credit hour basis.

2 The military contract out-of state rate applies to federal military installations located in Virginia. It allows the military contract rate to be charged to out-of-state domiciled military or civilian personnel stationed or working at these installations.

In accordance with Chapter 782, 2017 Acts of Assembly, the State Board for Community Colleges approved the Military Contract Rate to apply to any out-of-state active duty military personnel stationed outside of Virginia, and not domiciled in Virginia, whether the tuition is paid by the military employer or personally by the active duty military member. Mandatory E&G fees including capital fee apply. Out-of state active-duty military students who reside in Virginia should not be charged the capital fee.

3 Military veterans residing within the Commonwealth shall be eligible for in-state tuition charges. Mandatory E&G fees apply except for the capital fee.

Dependents of active duty military personnel who reside in Virginia shall be deemed to be domiciled in Virginia and receive the in-state tuition rate. Mandatory E&G fees apply except for the capital fee.

A spouse or child using benefits under Survivors' and Dependents' Education Assistance (Chapter 35) living in the Commonwealth of Virginia while attending a school located in the Commonwealth of Virginia (regardless of their formal state of residence) shall be charged in-state tuition per Title 38 United States Code Section 3679(c.)

4 Dual enrolled students - all qualified dual enrolled students receive the in-state tuition rate. Mandatory E&G fees apply except for the capital feeTuition shall be charged at the Virginia in-state rate for any high school or magnet school student, not otherwise qualified for in-state tuition, pursuant to Section 23.1- 506, Chapter 5 of the Code of Virginia, who is enrolled in courses specifically designed as part of the high school or magnet school curriculum in a community college for which he/she may, upon successful completion, receive high school and community college credit pursuant to a dual enrollment agreement between the high school or magnet school and the community college.  This waiver is made pursuant to Section 23.1- 506, Chapter 5 of the Code of Virginia. Any non-Virginia student granted in-state tuition pursuant to this subsection shall be counted as a non-Virginia student for the purposes of determining college admissions, enrollment, and tuition and fee revenue policies

5 Virginia employers and federal agencies located in Virginia pay the business contract rate for employees who have an out of state domicile. These employers pay the in-state rate for employees domiciled in Virginia. Mandatory E&G fees including capital fee apply.

6 The Parking Infrastructure fee supports NOVA surface lot lighting, emergency response safety equipment, lot repair and paving. It does not include the cost for a parking permit or visitor parking.
