Governor Ralph Northam today at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) announced his proposed budget will include $145 million over the biennium to make tuition-free community college available to low- and middle-income students who pursue jobs in high-demand fields.

It will occur in the Foley Forum (first floor), 6699 Springfield Center Dr., Springfield VA 22150. The event will celebrate the college’s outreach to bring preventative health services to all corners of Northern Virginia.

‘Gabriel’s Revolt,’ a Northern Virginia Community College Produced Student and Faculty Film to Air August 2nd on WETA TV 26 and WETA HD

A Northern Virginia Community College produced film will broadcast on WETA TV 26, the flagship public broadcaster in the nation’s capital, on August 2nd, 2019 at 8:30 p.m. The NOVA organized passion project, ‘Gabriel’s Revolt’ that spanned over eight years was fueled by the dedication and commitment of the faculty and students here at the college. This historically accurate timepiece was shot at all the original sites where the protagonist had visited centuries ago.

The season finale of the CBS show ‘WHISTLEBLOWER’ will air on Friday, June 28, 2019, at 8pm EST, and will feature Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) adjunct faculty member, Bunny Greenhouse. Greenhouse, a former Chief Contracting Officer for the United States Army Corps of Engineers testified before Congress in 2005 about irregularities in contracts between Halliburton and the federal government.

Northern Virginia Community College Cloud Computing Students Participate on Panel for Amazon Web Services’ Public Sector Summit in Washington, D.C.

The annual Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Public Sector Summit was held in Washington, DC from June 11th to June 12th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center bringing together users from government, education, and non-profit organizations. Northern Virginia Community College’s (NOVA’s) innovative Cloud Computing degree program, which was announced during last year’s AWS public sector summit, was the first two-year Cloud-focused degree in the nation.

Northern Virginia Community College Student Who Was Recently Granted Political Asylum, Receives Prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Transfer Scholarship

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) student, Taima Al-Iriani, is one of 61 recipients of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This highly competitive national scholarship will provide Al-Iriani with up to $40,000 annually for a maximum of three years to complete her bachelor’s degree.

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) student, Ons Ameur, received the 2019 Virginias Collegiate Honors Council Emerging Honors Scholar of the Year Award at the Virginias Collegiate Honors Council (VCHC) Spring Conference on April 6 in Harrisonburg, Va. Northern Virginia Community College Will Hold Inaugural “Spring Into NOVAarts Festival”

For the first time ever, all the arts NOVA has to offer will be under one roof creating an interactive event filled with spectacular performances.

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) will host its inaugural Spring Into NOVAarts Festival on March 30, 2019, at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center located on the NOVA Alexandria Campus at 4915 East Campus Drive in Alexandria, Va. The event runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. featuring the talented students of the NOVAarts program and student organizations, through a walking, progressive and all-encompassing performance showcase. The festivities include a different event in each part of the Schlesinger Center – music ensembles, a dance group, theatrical performances, live drawing events, a portrait station, student films, fine arts, interior designs and graphic designs. All of NOVA’s arts will be under one roof, for the first time in its history.

Northern Virginia Community College Will Host Human Library Project

Human “books” will tell their stories about successes, adventures, struggles and achievements to participants at the event

While libraries contain physical books that are repositories of human knowledge, human beings themselves represent a living library of experience. Each individual’s story contributes a chapter to our collective understanding of the issues that unite and, increasingly, divide every member of our global community. On Thursday, March 28, Northern Virginia Community College is bringing human “books” to the community by hosting the Human Library Project, an international event held on college campuses across the world. The program will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the NOVA Alexandria Campus, Bisdorf Building, Room AA-158.

Northern Virginia Community College to Host VEX Robotics State Championship for Elementary, Middle and High School Students

Top student teams from the Commonwealth will compete for a spot at the VEX Robotics World Championship in April.

NOVA SySTEMic, Northern Virginia Community College’s STEM Outreach Program, will host 140 robotics teams from across the Commonwealth as they compete in the VEX Robotics Virginia State Championship, called States19. The event will take place on Friday, March 1, from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 2 from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. at Meadow Event Park at 13191 Dawn Boulevard, Doswell, VA 23047. The competition is open and free to the public.

Frances Villagran-Glover Named Northern Virginia Community College’s New Vice President of Student Services

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is pleased to announce that Frances Villagran-Glover has been named as the vice president of student services. She will be responsible for the overall planning, coordination and evaluation of all student services and programs. Villagran-Glover has more than 25 years of experience working with diverse student populations in K-16 settings and has a proven track record of creating strategies to improve student success, as well as expertise in management and implementation of organizational integrations.

The Chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges, Dr. Glenn DuBois, announced today that Dr. Melvyn D. Schiavelli will become the interim President of Northern Virginia Community College effective March 15, 2019. Schiavelli currently serves as the executive vice president of NOVA, overseeing Academic & Student Services. This appointment marks the second time that Schiavelli will be the college’s interim president.

Northern Virginia Community College to Host Annual MLK Day of Service on Jan. 21

This month, the 10th Annual MLK Day of Service won’t be a day “off” at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) – it’s a day “on” filled with community service and helping residents of the D.C. Metro-area. On Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. NOVA’s Center for Design, Media and the Arts, located at 3301 Netherton Drive in Alexandria, VA, will be a gathering spot for staff, students, friends, and family members to participate in projects that will benefit students, Alexandria residents and the homeless population.
