ANNANDALE, VA (July 15, 2019) – The Manager of Labor Market Research at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), Alex Cooley, was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER). C2ER is a membership organization that promotes excellence in community and economic research by working to improve data availability, enhance data quality, and foster learning about regional economic analytic methods. The organization’s membership base is more than 1,000 individuals representing community and economic development organizations in the U.S. and Canada. Cooley is the only representative on the Board from the region and he will serve for the 2019 – 2022 term.

In his role at NOVA, Cooley provides College leadership and community partners with data to guide strategic planning efforts and conduct economic research as well as detailed analysis of the regional labor market to support the workforce needs of employers. Cooley also manages the team responsible for career awareness activities in the northern Virginia region, working with K-12 school districts and higher education partners to distribute labor market information to support career pathway decisions. Prior to his position with NOVA, Cooley worked as a research manager for a workforce development board in Charlotte, NC.

“The work that C2ER is leading is critically important as labor market information continues to become an essential part of talent development strategies for businesses, students, and communities across the country. I’m excited to represent the college and northern Virginia in this role and in these conversations,” said Cooley.

In addition to his role with C2ER, Cooley also serves on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Future Business Leaders of America, and is a member of the International Economic Development Council and the Virginia Economic Developers Association. A North Carolina native, Cooley earned a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
