The Northern Virginia Community College Medical Education Campus (MEC) is hosting a celebratory ribbon cutting event from 12:00p-2:00p on August 27, 2019. It will occur in the Foley Forum (first floor), 6699 Springfield Center Dr., Springfield VA 22150. The event will celebrate the college’s outreach to bring preventative health services to all corners of Northern Virginia.
The mission of the “MEC Mobile” is to promote health, wellness, and disease prevention at the community level. It will also help promote career opportunities in health care through the MEC’s Nursing and Allied Health programs. This celebration follows the success of the MEC Mobile’s inaugural service outreach at the Culmore Multicultural Day in April at Bailey’s Crossroads. Approximately 700 attendees received free health screenings and educational materials.
The vision for MEC Mobile is to bring the synergy of health, education and outreach together. This unique service provides underserved communities with health services while providing students at NOVA with clinical opportunities. NOVA is keenly aware that many in the community are either uninsured or underinsured and is committed to continuing a legacy of service to our region.
MEC Mobile, while not meant as a substitute for primary care and emergency treatment, will provide compassionate health, wellness and disease prevention education as well as screenings. Through the College’s community partnerships with health organizations and agencies, patient referrals will be administered for those in need of additional treatment.
Approximately 2,500 students enrolled in the MEC’s associate degree and certificate programs will be engaged in this new opportunity to offer services and educate community members on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The services that MEC Mobile will provide includes:
- Blood Pressure Screening
- Glucose Screening
- Pediatric Assessment
- Dental Cleaning
- Education Seminars
To request services for your community, please make reservations here.
More information about the event can be found on the MEC calendar website here. If there are further questions, please contact Geraldine Hofler, Director of NoVaHealthFORCE at ghofler@nvcc.edu.
The Medical Education Campus continues to thank its many health partners such as; Medical Care for Children Partnership Foundation (MCCP), Virginia Hospital Center, Sentara Healthcare, Novant Health, INOVA and Kaiser Permanente for propelling NOVA’s success to make public health impactful in the community.
