Special showing of the film Lincoln
2:30 p.m., Ernst Center Theater

Free and open to students, faculty, staff, and friends.

Reception at 12:30 p.m. in the Ernst Center Forum, followed by a roundtable discussion at 1:00 p.m. led by Dr. Terry Alford, award-winning NOVA history professor and consultant to the producers of the film.

For the roundtable discussion, Alford, a Lincoln scholar and co-founder of the Abraham Lincoln Institute, will discuss the historical background of the events depicted in the film. Alford was awarded the 2010 Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award.

Mark Greenough, tour supervisor and historian of the Virginia State Capitol, will discuss the filming of the movie in Richmond and discuss the history of the Virginia Capitol in the Civil War.

Jim Dillard, former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and a retired political science teacher, will discuss the politics of the effort to pass the 13thamendment as depicted in the film.

Dr. Amy Gilley, Annandale associate professor of film and theatre studies, will review the film from a theatrical viewpoint.
