ARLINGTON, VA — Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) will be hosting a free, two-day fiber optic training program April 4-5 in Arlington.
The program is open to the public and will be held at the AWS Skills Center at 1550 Crystal Drive in Arlington. The AWS Skills Center in Crystal City is a free cloud education resource for the community. Members of the public who enroll in the Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing training program will learn how to install and repair fiber optics.
Fiber optic cables carry internet, television, and telephone data. They’re made up of tiny glass tubes, which makes repairing and testing them specialized work. Participants in the two-day training program will receive a certificate and get connected to potential employers during a mixer at the conclusion of the program.
There are no prerequisites for attending the training, but registrants are asked to complete a short online course prior to arriving at the AWS Skills Center. Since space is limited, the public is asked to visit the Amazon Web Services website and register for the two-day Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing training program.
