Initially announced prior in Governor Ralph Northam’s proposed budget on December 12, 2019, the “Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back” initiative, or “G3” program has come to fruition. The Virginia General Assembly has overwhelmingly approved funding, and Governor will sign the bill on Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria campus on Monday, March 29th at 10a.m.
The “G3” program provides $36 million over the biennium to make program-targeted, tuition-free community college possible for qualifying students. This last dollar program is one of the first in the nation to provide wraparound financial assistance to help students at the lowest income levels with expenses such as food, transportation, and childcare.
“G3” is a step in the right direction toward a more equitable region and Commonwealth. This legislation will provide vital financial support for many students who might otherwise not be able to pursue a meaningful career that promises advancement and opportunity.
NOVA’s Marketing and Visual Services will live-stream the event. The link to attend virtually can be can be found here: https://www.nvcc.edu/tvcenter/event.html
