On April 21, the NOVA Educational Foundation launched an inaugural 24-hour virtual fundraiser in support of NOVA student achievement. Nearly $30,000 was raised to support student success through scholarships, emergency grants, textbooks and even caps and gowns for NOVA’s upcoming May commencement.
“Faculty, staff, alumni and NOVA enthusiasts across northern Virginia quickly answered our call to support NOVA’s inaugural Giving Day. Their generosity will help countless NOVA Nighthawks complete their educational or career journey,” said Kelly Persons, executive director of the NOVA Foundation. “We are so humbled and moved by the outpouring of financial support and NOVA pride that was shared leading up to and during Giving Day. Our #Nighthawks will remember this day for years to come.”
Approximately 200 donors supported this first-of-its-kind campaign for NOVA. The NOVA Foundation is grateful for the community champions who have continually supported NOVA’s students. Over the years, this generosity has provided resources so that a quality education and skills training will continue to be available to all, transforming the lives of our students, their families and the region.
“The inaugural NOVA Giving Day was a great success, bringing in more than $1,000 an hour, said Dr. Anne M. Kress, president of NOVA. “One unforeseen benefit of Giving Day: the high number of new donors to NOVA. I am grateful to the Foundation—especially Executive Director Kelly Persons—for their leadership in beginning a new NOVA tradition!”
