NOVA Cybersecurity Grad Grateful for G3, Pell Grants, Which Made College Possible for Him

Every student at NOVA brings a different story and a different perspective on student success and achievement. Commencement brings to life their accomplishments.

Jones Opoku Boakye is an avid learner who is set for success. He strives to continue to help those around him. Boakye, a G3 student, talks about the professors at NOVA. He plans to embark on his path to success in cybersecurity.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background:

I am from Ghana, which is part of West Africa. I am interested in database technology, programming and computer repairing, which is why I came to NOVA.

What are you studying or plan to study at NOVA?

I am currently studying a Cybersecurity course at NOVA. To me, college is an exciting period full of new opportunities. Of course, there's also the matter of studying, writing papers, reading textbooks and studying for examinations at times, which takes time, but I know it’s for my future. I also take part in the school’s extracurricular activities and other programs.

Tell Us About Your Experience at NOVA; ie, professors you’ve liked and friends you’ve met:

During class, I devote 100% of my focus to my studies. I am a self-assured, conscientious and punctual student. I complete my homework on time and assist my classmates with their assignments. I also excel at non-academic pursuits such as writing, dance and sports. I prefer to study books in the school library during my leisure time in class.

The Federal Pell Grants and G3 Grants have helped me in the progress of my education. I can say that I benefited immensely from these grants. The G3 Grants cover any remaining classes that I will be taking, which I am thankful for.

To all the professors I have worked with, thank you so much for everything. I sincerely appreciate all the effort spent assisting me on numerous assignments. Thank you so much for providing this lesson. I thoroughly enjoyed every presentation here and all the faculty members’ wonderful sense of humor.

What would you tell a student coming to NOVA?

I will always recommend NOVA to anyone who is ready or searching to attend college. I am excited to be a student at this school. God bless everyone.

Where do you see yourself after NOVA or what career pursuits are you exploring?

I would welcome any organization or an individual to offer me an internship program to expand my skills and capabilities.
