Working with our Federal Partners
The Federal Government supports NOVA through direct tuition assistance provided to our students through the Pell Grant Program. Information on this partnership and other forms of student aid can be found here:
NOVA's students also benefit from an infusion of one-time Federal funds approved by Congress as a part of the CARES Act, the CRRSAA Act and the ARP Act.
From the CARES Act (the first round of Federal Stimulus funding), NOVA received $10M toward Emergency Student Financial Aid and another $10M in Institutional Funding. All of the student aid was distributed and the Institutional funding was used to further train and equip our faculty to deliver distance education and to make our campuses broadband access sites for students.
From the CRRSAA Act funding, NOVA is receiving $44.1M. At least $11M of this will go directly for student emergency aid grants with the majority of the remaining funds going to further equip our student services to provide support for student success.
As for ARP, NOVA anticipates approximately $70M - primarily for student aid. The U.S. Department of Education has not yet provided the precise amount of support or the limits on its use. We anticipate that the majority will be used to make courses free to qualifying students.
