| NOVA’s financial aid programs can make your college education more affordable than you thought possible. Our need-based programs provide scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities that are sponsored by the federal and state governments and the College. Need-based financial aid is not available to international students, although many students can qualify for loans without demonstrating need?
If you wish to be considered for financial aid for Summer 2007, you must apply at least four weeks in advance to ensure that your application can be processed and approved before your tuition payment deadline. Be sure to enter NOVA’s College School Code: NVCC 003727. While most programs require enrollment for at least six (6) semester credits, some funds are available to students enrolled for fewer than six (6) semester credits.
To apply for financial aid, contact the Financial Aid Specialist at the Student Services Center on any NOVA campus. You can apply online at www.nvcc.edu/finance/. Your eligibility is determined based on the information you file with the federal government using Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and your selection of a major in an eligible degree or certificate program. The FAFSA can be filed online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov or by going to www.nvcc.edu/finance/ or www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect/. You must also meet other federal and state eligibility criteria.
NOVA’s Student Financial Aid Services brochure provides a comprehensive description of the programs and application procedures for student aid. Copies are available from all campus Financial Aid Specialists, Student Services Centers, or the College Financial Aid Office.
Completed applications received by March 1, 2006 will receive priority consideration for all financial aid funds for Summer 2007. Financial aid applications received after the March 1, 2006 priority filing date will continue to be considered during the school year. Applicant materials may be mailed to NOVA, College Financial Aid Office, Forbes Office Center, Annandale, VA 22003-3796.
PLEASE NOTE: Financial aid funding for Summer 2007 comes from the 2006-2007 academic school year. If you also wish to receive financial aid for Fall 2007, you will need to reapply for financial aid for 2007-2008.
The NOVA Tuition Assistance Grant (NOVA TAG) is available for the Summer 2007 semester. To qualify, you need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), demonstrate financial need, and enroll in at least six (6) semester credits. Important Points to Remember:
- If you fail to attend a classroom-based course and/or fail to complete an activity in a distance education course, you may be withdrawn from the course and your financial aid award will be recalculated.
- If you received more funds than can be justified based on your failure to attend the course, you will be required to repay the overpayment. This may occur at any point during the semester/term if the College Financial Aid Office becomes aware of a situation affecting your enrollment status. You will not be eligible to re-enroll until the debt has been repaid.
Veterans’ Benefits
If you are applying for or are receiving educational benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, you must contact a campus veterans’ advisor each semester to complete the necessary forms to establish and maintain your eligibility for benefits.
